Description: "The Wycliffe children are lucky enough to be invited to spend a holiday with an elderly aunt in Beirut, their air passage out and back being paid, and no sooner have they arrived than they realize [sic] that a sinister mystery is threatening their aunt. They set themselves out to unravel it and find the opposition much tougher and more baffling than they expected. Hints and clues lead them into desperate danger, which provides a thrilling climax to a fast-moving story. The author's knowledge of the Middle East enables her to make the background authoritative and convincing."
Three-colour frontispiece features the same scene present on the jacket. Illustrated with several excellent b&w drawings. Pastedowns and endpapers depict a lovely brown-monochrome map of the Middle East.
Bright orange boards with gilded text to spine. Corners ever so slightly bumped. Pictorial jacket has been neatly price-clipped. Inside flap lightly foxed at the foot; rear cover is also foxed. Minor scuffing to extremities; negligible loss at spine ends, otherwise the jacket remains complete and unfaded. Pages are in superb condition: crisp, bright, unmarked, and with not a speck of foxing in sight. Gutter very lightly tanned. Binding is tight.
This is the second (and last ever!) impression of the 1955 original.
