![]() | Title: Poisonous Fungi Author: John Ramsbottom Illustrator: Joy Jarvis, Rose Ellenby Year: 1945 (First Edition) Binding: Hardback Publisher: Penguin Books Limited Book Condition: Very Good Jacket Condition: No Jacket
Description:
Fascinating, Ladybird-sized insight into the world of fungi. As in his
previous book, the author provides a rich, historical background to fungi, stretching back
to ancient times. Once again, 16 varieties have been selected – though this time of the
poisonous variety – with each being described in great detail (including measurements).
There are also various b&w illustrations interspersed throughout the text.
At the end of the text are 16 excellent 'plates' (in reality, full-page illustrations printed on ordinary paper) illustrating each mushroom in full colour. The rear board has a negligible stain at the back, whilst the front has suffered some equally minor rubbing (refer to image). There is a small nick in the middle of the spine, and the head of the spine has been bumped (visible on image). Internally, the book is in excellent condition. Despite having been printed on War Economy paper, there isn't a jot of foxing in sight. The binding is incredibly tight, and it would seem that the previous owner was only interested in looking at the illustrations, as the rest of the book appears unread. Measures 18.5 cm × 12.5 cm (7.4″ × 5″). Large 12mo. 32 pp. + 16 pp. of full-page illustrations. (SOLD) |
