Description: Part travelogue, part history book, this captivating tome provides a fascinating account of Egypt, its people, religion, and history. It is enriched all the more by the author's engaging style and humorous observations. The book is split into five sections:
Illustrated with close to 200 beautiful and entrancing b&w engravings – many of which are presented in the form of full-page plates (including a frontispiece). Patterned endpapers and pastedowns.
Embossed chocolate pictorial cloth boards. The text and main illustration are gilded on the front; the rear has a blind-stamped motif. Gilt text on spine. Gilded page edges. Corners are bumped (those on the front board are lightly chipped). Tail of spine badly bumped. Internally the book is in superb condition for its age. Only the endpapers, title and last page are foxed; all other pages are crisp, clean, and tightly bound. Neatly printed gift inscription on ffep is dated 1905, but the book is clearly older than this.
