Description: An extremely rare collection of poems by this much-overlooked Victorian poet. An extract from The Elves follows:

Far away in the wood,
Be it understood,
There live the little elves,
Where the tall trees meet
In the summer sweet
They have it all to themselves.

No mortal eye
Can ever espy
The revels that there they hold;
Their banquet is spread
On a mushroom's head,
And they drink out of buttercups gold.

Illustrated throughout with beautiful, full-page chromolithographs which really bring the poems to life. Floral patterned endpapers and pastedowns.

Laminated pictorial boards with blue cloth spine. Spine is bumped. Front board has an 11½ cm (4½″) scratch running horizontally, though this is only visible under direct light. Internally, the book is in excellent condition for its age. The pages are crisp, bright, and virtually free from foxing. There are, however, the faint remains of an adhesive label on the fep.

No year of publication given, but assumed to date from c.1883 (Thorn published another book similar to this one in that year).

Measures 22.5 cm × 18 cm (9″ × 7.2″). 8vo. Unpaginated.

Price: £150.00
