Description: The first of the charming stories about the scarecrow who has three birthdays; one for this turnip head, one for his blue-shirted middle, and one for his straw feet. He also has a heart of gold, a wry sense of humour, and a nest of robins in his pocket.
This was the first book published in the Puffin series.

Illustrated throughout with several excellent b&w line drawings – most of which are full-page.

Minor wear to front cover: creasing and rubbing to corners. Rear cover is in very good condition. Spine worn and rubbed. '4p' neatly inscribed in red ballpoint on flyleaf – no doubt the work of some '70s car-booter! Usual tanning commensurate with a book of this age, otherwise pages are tightly bound and in very good, unmarked condition.

Measures 18 cm × 11 cm (7.2″ × 4.4″). 12mo. 154 pp. + 2 page catalogue of other titles by the publisher, and an unused Puffin Club membership form.
