Title: The Bobbsey Twins on Blueberry Island
Author: Laura Lee Hope
Publisher: World Distributors (Manchester) Limited
Condition: Very Good
Jacket Condition: Good
Description: Number eight in the popular series follows the Twins' escapades on Blueberry Island. It is worth mentioning that the book portrays gypsies in a very negative light. But, then again, the Bobbsey Twins books were never politically correct!
The only illustrations present are that on the dust jacket; a b&w frontispiece in which the Twins are excitedly watching a convoy of horse-drawn gypsy caravans; and another illustration at the very end of the book depicting the Twins pushing a vintage car down a country lane. The endpapers and pastedowns are illustrated with a b&w pattern of miscellaneous, holiday-related objects (e.g. beach balls, windmills, circus tents, &c.).
The jacket has been laminated and reinforced with paper by the previous owner, and bears its original price of 5´-. There is some slight damage to the front cover (visible on scan), and the rear flap is dog-eared. Otherwise, the jacket is in good condition. The pages themselves are in very good condition: clean and free from any foxing or other markings. There is, however, the usual discolouration to the endpapers where they have been in contact with the jacket flaps and there are some slight grubby marks along the page tips on the side. The binding is tight.
Rare to find with dust jacket, so priced accordingly.
Measures 19.5 cm × 13 cm (7.8″ × 5.2″). Small 8vo. 184 pp.
