Description: James Boswell's humorous and epic biographical account of "arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English history", Dr. Samuel Johnson, also serves as a fascinating portrayal of everyday life in Victorian Britain.

Illustrated with no less than 54 excellent, full-page b&w sketches by the celebrated Ernest Shepard.

Chocolate cloth boards with gilded text on spine. Dust jacket scuffed along extremities. Minor wear to front; rear has four, small square-shaped pockmarks, plus a light hint of soiling. Otherwise the jacket is complete and free from tears. Pages are in very good, unmarked condition – although p. 191 has a small closed tear – and the vintage tan framing them actually enhances the character of the book! Binding is very tight.
