Description: A very scarce secondary school geography textbook designed to cover the core curriculum required for the former General Schools Examinations (the precursor to O-Levels). Split into 2 sections (General World Geography & Regional Geography), encompassing a total of 21 chapters, the book provides a fascinating insight into how the world looked like shortly after the end of WWII.
Generously illustrated with 195 b&w maps and line drawings, plus 24 b&w photographs printed on glossy plates (including a frontis).
Crimson cloth boards with gilded text on front and spine. Slight discolouration on front, plus a further 'stain' on spine. Spine and upper corners bumped. School 'ownership record' affixed to front pastedown. Previous pupils' names and forms also written on fep. Front hinge has given way, but the binding remains unaffected, with all pages staying firmly in place. Considering its previous life in the classroom, and overall age, the book is in remarkably good condition. The pages have only a hint of tanning, and there isn't even the slightest speck of foxing. They are also largely unmarked, with only a handful having been annotated in either HB or coloured pencil – including a few humorous doodles. One or two pages also have minor ink stains. The lower-right corner of p.143 has been neatly 'clipped'.
