Description: Very scarce book written by the founder of the Burton's Biscuits empire. Contains many cake recipes for all occasions and includes instructions and techniques for decoration (including lettering and ornaments).

Illustrated throughout with a mix of stunning hand-coloured and b&w plates. Also contains a wealth of full-page vintage adverts – such as Mello-Mallo and McGhie's Icing Powder – plus an unused order form for another copy of Cake Making, still attached to the binding. Full-page illustration depicts the Burton dynasty in b&w photographs.

2.5 cm (1″) tear near the centre of the spine, causing the binding to have become exposed between pp. 48 and 49. Even so, all pages remain intact with no intention of coming loose. High-quality, glossy paper means that there isn't a single spot of foxing – except to the ffep, which is of ordinary paper and has some very light foxing. Some pages show light signs of handling, whilst others have some minor marks. Overall condition of the pages – considering their age – is excellent. Gilt text and ornaments on maroon boards.

Measures 26.5 cm × 21.5 cm (10.6″ × 8.6″). 4to. 176 pp.
