Description: "This is the story of a boy who mets his own reflection, and explores with him the countryside of an enchanted river. Their adventures are dreamlike—the strange supper- party at the watermill: the maze cut in the endless corn: the aqueduct built by night: the floating town—but the river boy's world is no mere dream to Nathaniel. It is a real part of his life—and the part that matters the most to him. When he and his river reach the sea, there his true childhood also ends."
Illustrated with several lovely line drawings by the author.
Sky blue cloth boards with silver gilded text to spine. Minor damp staining (and a slight nick) on front. Corners lightly bumped; spine appears to be straight. Unclipped (12s 6d net) pictorial jacket has some slight damp marks (repeated on the boards), and is slightly worn along the spine. Small, bookseller's sticker for Books & Careers, Victoria Street, London affixed to lower corner of front pastedown. Previous owner's name, year of acquisition, and inventory number neatly inscribed in blue ink on ffep. Apart from a few tiny specks of foxing on the ffep, the book is in excellent condition for its age. The pages are crisp, unmarked, and haven't a single jot of foxing. There is only the slightest hint of tanning in the gutter. Binding is tight.
Rare first edition.
