Description: The heat of the summer enflames the imagination and curiosity of Louisa, Rose, and Japhet. So does the gaping hole which unexpectedly appears in Louisa's bedroom ceiling. They find curious pieces of newspaper in the rubble and hear from their neighbours about the mysterious disappearance of 'the Captain' who had once lived in the cottage. A hilarious and baffling search for the old seaman follows.

Illustrated throughout with charming and humorous b&w sketches (including a frontis).

Dark blue cloth boards with gilt text on spine. Jacket is scuffed and has a small loss at the head of the spine. Edges rubbed with small losses at corners. A very neat inscription in blue ballpoint reveals that the book was presented to the previous owner in 1982 by a certain Mr. & Mrs. Gordon. The book itself is in excellent condition. Pages are crisp, clean and free from foxing.

Nice copy of a rare book.

Measures 19 cm × 12.5 cm (7.6″ × 5″). Large 12mo. 218 pp.
