Description:
"Every day, every single day in the little Italian town of Capa d'Oro, Roberto's mother gave
him maize flour pudding. Maize pudding and two small fried sardines, maize pudding and onion,
maize pudding and—and—and maize pudding! It was all his widowed mother could
afford for her children."
But when a rich lady asks Roberto to carry a roasted leg of chicken to her sister, who is
ill, the delicious scent coming from under the lid causes the little boy's taste-buds to go
into overdrive, and he has to do all in his power to stop himself from eating it!
And thus Roberto embarks on a serious of remarkable adventures… all for the leg of a
chicken!
Beautiful – and often humorous – watercolour and pencil drawings (in both b&w and full-colour) – several of which are double-spread – perfectly capture the spirit of 1950s Italy. Matt pictorial boards repeat jacket design. Corners are straight; spine is lightly bumped. Unclipped (12s. 6d. net) dust jacket is lightly foxed at front, and more so at the rear (refer to image), and has some wear and scuffing along the upper extremities. Closed tears have been skilfully repaired, and the jacket remains complete and loss-free. Some foxing is present on the first and last few pages, plus pastedowns. Otherwise the book is in superb internal condition: the pages are unmarked, completely free from tanning, and soundly bound. Measures 32.5 cm × 23 cm (13″ × 9.2″). Folio. Unpaginated. Price: £50.00 |
