Description: One frosty morning, Downy Duckling's mother sends him off to fetch a pail of water, on account of the pipes and taps freezing up. Downy decides to go to the river, but finds it, too, has completely frozen over! He gets the bright idea of hacking at the ice to get to the water beneath, and Monty Mousie brings him a hatchet. Of course, Downy's idea wasn't quite so bright, and soon the duck and the mouse find themselves in a bit of strife!
Told in verse.
Lovely, full-page colour illustrations on every facing page. Blue monochrome pastedowns and endpapers depict the rescue operation to save Downy.
Matt pictorial boards in good overall condition. Extremities lightly rubbed. Corners bumped and rubbed. Spine is missing. Pages are foxed, but the illustrations appear to have resisted the little brown specks!
Although the only year of publication given is 1942, this reprint is from 1974.
Measures 17.5 cm × 11.5 cm (7″ × 4.6″). 12mo. 51 pp.
