Title: read it yourself: The Magic Paintbrush
Author: Fran Hunia
Illustrator: Martin Aitchison
Publisher: Ladybird Books Ltd.
Book Condition: Good/Very Good
Jacket Condition: N/A
Description: Fran Hunia's retelling of this famous Chinese fairy tale is written in simple language, using large text, in this lovely edition.
Excellent full-colour illustrations throughout. An exquisite double-spread chinoiserie peacock, accompanied by butterflies, on the pastedowns and endpapers completes the oriental theme perfectly.
Matt pictorial boards. Minor wear to front (refer to image). As is the case with most matt Ladybirds, the spine and corners have been bumped and rubbed. Previous owner's name very neatly written in blue ballpoint on the verso. A few pages are lightly creased from handling, else the book is in pristine internal condition. Super-tight binding.
Although the price of 50p does not correspond with that usually found on Ladybirds from this year, The Magic Paintbrush is the last title to be listed on the rear board. It is therefore assumed that this book does, indeed, date from 1979 but is the second (or subsequent) printing of the first edition.
Measures 17.5 cm × 11.5 cm (7″ × 4.6″). 12mo. 51 pp.
